Nine Architectural Finds that Help Inspire an Interior Designer

At the Architectural Digest Home Show at Pier 94 in New York recently, I discovered some fabulous pieces. Here are nine architectural finds that help inspire the design of my clients’ homes as an interior designer.

This table has a wonderful tactile feel and could easily be a bench.

I like the combination of shapes on this table. If you study it, you can see a heart, or someone seated with their knees under their arms. What do you see?

Somehow this reminds me of “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea”. This would look perfect in a beach house, hanging on a wall.

Mary Armstrong

Do you feel the breeze? This painting expresses what a bird sees and feels, while flying over the Great Plains.

I am expecting to see the hands of an Astrologer floating in front of the crystal ball. I want her to tell me how old I will live to be.

Antoine Schapira

This Palm Commode, combines palm tree, brass leaf, and glass, in such an interesting and elegant way. I can see this used in a Parisian Pied-a-Terre.

Peter Bynum – Glass Art

This piece of art work makes me want to slip on my flippers and snorkel, and swim through it. It is surrounded by 360 degrees of light, and the multi-layers of glass are illuminated from behind, so the light filters from back to front.

Willie Wildlife Sculptures – Bird Bath

My favorite critter is the frog. I yelped with pleasure when I saw this fountain, because the artist absolutely grasped the form and motion of happy frogs. It brings back joyful childhood memories, of looking for tadpoles in the creeks around our house.

C. A. Johnson Ornament

Who wouldn’t love to see the statue of “The Thinker” sitting right next to this huge sculpture of a walnut. I do not know about you, but I have always related the image of the walnut to wisdom.

These finds at the Architectural Digest Home Show have been a help to me. I hope you have enjoyed them and have also been helpful to you. Have they?
