Bringing the Elements Into Your Home!

A design element frequently overlooked is movement and texture. I find that people are more often than not, drawn to fabric and finishes solely on their appealing patterns and colors, but are unaware of the depth that can be added into a space by adding a simple touch of movement. This allows you to transform a flat space adding life in a casual way.

I have decided to take it a step further and look into the movement of textures and materials, giving you ideas of ways in which movement and a three dimensional effect can be applied to your space.

WATER

Here is a beautiful stone slab from NY Stone Manhattan. I came across this in person and was taken aback by the unbelievable craftsmanship of Mother Nature. The one-of-a-kind organic veining has created the illusion of water. To me, it appears as if there is a current that is alive and moving. How marvelous would this stone be placed in any bathroom or kitchen? It would give the effect that your counter was a vessel filled with moving water.

AIR

Now for air. This beautiful architectural screen from Bendheim Architectural Glass is reminiscent of fabric blowing in the wind. To me, this architectural screen is light and airy. Despite all of the movement and depth that is being unleashed, there is a great sense of peace and tranquility.

EARTH

This fabulous painting, done by Kate Childs, is yet another picture perfect way in which you can add texture and life to any space as well as incorporating nature. This piece on the contrary, evokes a less dramatic and more peaceful calming mood while still having as strong sense of presence. At the sight of this painting, I am lost in its texture and soothing movements; the oceanic breezy feel is an oasis.
