Adding Light Through Mirrors!

Mirrors are important in every home design. Whether it is for function or decoration, mirrors help bounce more natural light into a home, and visually create more space, making it a very important piece to have. Here are some ideas how mirrors can be incorporated into your home! This mirror located in the entryway of this home is a beautiful statement piece! This can be used for both function and decoration because it is in the perfect place for someone to look in the mirror as they are walking out the door. I especially love the angled cuts into the mirror; it really balances out the organic table below it. Mirrored furniture has also been very popular this year. These pieces are not only glamorous looking, but can bounce light around at different angles. I love the mirrored bedside tables and bench in this bedroom! It adds the finishing touch to this elegant space. This bathroom is stunning! In this space, mirror is used as both a function and decoration on the same wall! The antique mirror behind the vanity acts as a feature wall and brings out the veins in the marble flooring and counter top surrounding it. I love how decorative vanity mirrors are applied on top of it, and are completed by the mirrored vanities. These features make this bathroom very spacious and airy. Who wouldn’t want to get ready for the day in here? Another way to incorporate mirror into your home is through the ceiling! I love the large tiled mirrors Kelly Wearstler used in this home. These mirrors reflect the light coming into the large windows and make the ceiling appear taller. Even at night, the chandelier on the ceiling will reflect off of the mirror and create a cozy, well lit environment. As you can see, there are plenty of opportunities to add mirrors into your home. I hope you feel inspired to incorporate these features into every room. If you would like more inspiration, please feel free to view my work here. Bringing Life to a Room with Embellished Furniture!

Embellished pieces bring excitement and personality to a home. A simplistic living room can easily be perked up by adding an embellished piece of furniture. Here are some perfect examples of some embellished furniture that would bring life to any space! I love how glamorous natural elements can look when done in a lavish finish. This table from Chista, features a free form shape with a cast bronze finish. This is no doubt a statement piece, and would be perfect for anyone who is going for a glamorous look. These lamps from CHD Lamp Co. are absolutely gorgeous! I love how the amethyst embellishments stand out against the aged steel. These lamps show how something can be made extraordinary by just the smallest embellishment on the lamp’s chain. This lamp could be just what you need to complete a space, and would add that one last touch of color! Here is another example of how glamorous details on lighting pieces are extremely eye catching.  These contemporary lighting fixtures from Windfall are made from Swarovski Strass Jewellery Beads.  I love how they sparkle when the light hits them! The beads help to create a sparkle in the space that can reflect throughout the room. I adore this ottoman from Sici’s. I love how the mosaic feature adds an even more luxurious feel to the piece than just the standard velvet fabric. The beautiful movement created by the curve of this ottoman, finished off with the exquisite gold detail, would be a great touch for a bedroom or living area!   If you already have a piece that you want to add embellishments to, then Diamond Head Upholstery Tack is the way to go! These tacks range in all different colors and sizes and you can put them wherever you want. This is a great for someone who is not sure how much embellishment they want, and can add them in small increments. Bringing the Elements Into Your Home!

A design element frequently overlooked is movement and texture. I find that people are more often than not, drawn to fabric and finishes solely on their appealing patterns and colors, but are unaware of the depth that can be added into a space by adding a simple touch of movement. This allows you to transform a flat space adding life in a casual way. I have decided to take it a step further and look into the movement of textures and materials, giving you ideas of ways in which movement and a three dimensional effect can be applied to your space. WATER Here is a beautiful stone slab from NY Stone Manhattan. I came across this in person and was taken aback by the unbelievable craftsmanship of Mother Nature. The one-of-a-kind organic veining has created the illusion of water. To me, it appears as if there is a current that is alive and moving. How marvelous would this stone be placed in any bathroom or kitchen? It would give the effect that your counter was a vessel filled with moving water. AIR Now for air. This beautiful architectural screen from Bendheim Architectural Glass is reminiscent of fabric blowing in the wind. To me, this architectural screen is light and airy. Despite all of the movement and depth that is being unleashed, there is a great sense of peace and tranquility. EARTH This fabulous painting, done by Kate Childs, is yet another picture perfect way in which you can add texture and life to any space as well as incorporating nature. This piece on the contrary, evokes a less dramatic and more peaceful calming mood while still having as strong sense of presence. At the sight of this painting, I am lost in its texture and soothing movements; the oceanic breezy feel is an oasis. FIRE I can almost feel the heat that is being released by this painting, done by Kate Childs. I adore her artistic style and how she has created such a work of art. This painting truly captures the mood she is trying to express, while also transporting you into this magical landscape at the sight of it. This painting would truly add texture and depth to any space where you are trying to add life. I hope that you have been inspired by these ideas on how to bring the elements into your home! If...

Exquisite Dining rooms!

In this week’s blog I have decided to show to you some exquisitely beautiful and one of a kind dining rooms that will be sure to catch your attention! In every one of these spaces, the designers have displayed their true sense of creativity and design as they have produced these marvelous one of a kind looks through the mixing of styles, elements, textures and colors. I hope you enjoy! I love the combination of the bold colors chosen on the upholstery, fabric and wallpaper in contrast with the finely detailed elements. The mantel of the fireplace is beautifully crafted, and the antique chairs are to die for! The Chinoiserie scenes by 18th-century French artist Jean-Baptiste Pillement, inspired the decorative painter. Bob Christian’s murals that have been painted on the walls. This artist also painted the Georgian-style chairs as well as the marbleized mantel. French Decor with an exotic mix of a tropical color pallet, can perfectly describe this elegantly refreshing and antique space. This dining room featured in House Beautiful, is just to die for. I love the simplicity of the stark white in contrast with the robin’s egg blue. In addition, I adore how the lighting fixture above the table is reminiscent of a birds nest resting above, offering an incredibly tranquil and relaxing feel. Here is another amazing and refreshingly inspiring dining room designed by Krista Ewart. I love the eclectic mix of purposefully and carefully selected elements that are all combined to create the perfect harmony of an updated and wonderfully balanced traditional space. The bright pops of color and funky upholstery offer the perfect amount of zing. Who knew that baby blue and light pink could be used in such a sophisticated manner? Featured in Cottages and Gardens,  this dining room offers yet another exquisite mix of traditional and antique pieces, updated with bright and strikingly poppy colors and textures. The Chinoiserie pagoda chandelier that is centered above the rich wood dining table, creates the perfect juxtaposition. I especially adore the selection of dining chairs; the antique Swedish chairs upholstered in the snake-skin leather is to die for, especially alongside the strictly modern acrylic chairs. This dining room brings a magical and whimsical approach to a sophisticated and traditional dining setting. Finally, is this space done by Nate Berkus. The mix of the abstract art with the classic and old-world antique furnishings, has created...

International Contemporary Furniture Fair at the JAVITS Convention Center – TEXTURES!

As a continuation from last week’s blog where I revealed to you some of my favorite artisans from the International Contemporary Furniture Fair at the JAVITS Convention Center,  this week I am going to do the same, however changing the focusing to amazing textures! Textures are a wonderful way to bring life and depth into a space, not only do they offer a visually stimulating harmonious element, they also bring a physical element as they allow you  to truly engage with the space! This rug from Nanimarquina is called Dolce, and just as its name suggests, it is decadently smooth and plush.  Just this image captures how effortlessly smooth it would feel to run your fingers through it. I would love to have this placed beneath my feet as I would imagine myself walking through a bed of velvet flowers. High chairs can often times be uncomfortable and harsh when seated in, however this one from moooi looks extravagantly welcoming. Its plush upholstery offers a moment of warmth thus creating a more enjoyable experience while seated up high. This Eos light from Vita is absolutely breathtaking. It captures an incredibly elegant and romantic movement as it appears to be a gift from heaven above caught in a moment of pure bliss. It is made from authentic bird feathers, each which are carefully fastened to a paper core by hand. It radiates the perfect amount of light to create a pleasantly cozy glow while also capturing a sense of mystery. I hope now when selecting fabrics, materials and finishes, you will view them in a much more dimensional way. If you are looking for further inspiration on how to incorporate amazing textures into your space, feel free to view my work here.
