Bringing Life to a Room with Embellished Furniture!

Embellished pieces bring excitement and personality to a home. A simplistic living room can easily be perked up by adding an embellished piece of furniture. Here are some perfect examples of some embellished furniture that would bring life to any space! I love how glamorous natural elements can look when done in a lavish finish. This table from Chista, features a free form shape with a cast bronze finish. This is no doubt a statement piece, and would be perfect for anyone who is going for a glamorous look. These lamps from CHD Lamp Co. are absolutely gorgeous! I love how the amethyst embellishments stand out against the aged steel. These lamps show how something can be made extraordinary by just the smallest embellishment on the lamp’s chain. This lamp could be just what you need to complete a space, and would add that one last touch of color! Here is another example of how glamorous details on lighting pieces are extremely eye catching.  These contemporary lighting fixtures from Windfall are made from Swarovski Strass Jewellery Beads.  I love how they sparkle when the light hits them! The beads help to create a sparkle in the space that can reflect throughout the room. I adore this ottoman from Sici’s. I love how the mosaic feature adds an even more luxurious feel to the piece than just the standard velvet fabric. The beautiful movement created by the curve of this ottoman, finished off with the exquisite gold detail, would be a great touch for a bedroom or living area!   If you already have a piece that you want to add embellishments to, then Diamond Head Upholstery Tack is the way to go! These tacks range in all different colors and sizes and you can put them wherever you want. Turning Plain Walls into Beautiful Works of Art!

Leather tiling for floors or walls is a gorgeous way to add glamour to any space. They are not only stylish and creative but they will age beautifully! Leather tiles are best used to draw attention to an area. By placing them behind the T.V., the T.V. becomes the focal point of this room. Also, they are great for bring unexpected texture. I love the way these tiles are incorporated with the textures from the ceiling, chandelier, couches, and all the other elements. I love the idea of using leather tiles behind a bed to add emphasis to the space. They are great for making a statement of luxury. These rooms look gorgeous; I love the mirrors for added texture! I also love these Textured Wall Panels. Using these make it easy to create a funky space while maintaining a classic and luxurious feel. How gorgeous would these be in your living room or bedroom? I also love the idea of using  these in a closet!   This is a fabulous company which I have come across, that features textured 3D PU leather tiles. The PU Leather is faux leather that also has a layer of water proof polyurethane.  This fabulous product brings forth a new dimension and concept for interior wall decorating. It enables a designer the ability to enhance flat walls with 3D surfaces that are not only visually rich, but also pleasing and stimulating to the eye.  I love the idea of using this material to transform a children’s play room or even using it in a home theater! Another marvelous company that really struck me was Bueno Glass. This is a form of art that utilizes blown glass to be placed on walls. They offer two different styles one for more rustic interiors which is the Stone Series and another which is more sleek and contemporary, the Silver Series. Despite their differences in appearance, they both are created using the methods of blown hot glass. All of the inspiration for these pieces is taken from nature in its purest for as you can see just simply from looking at the pieces, they are incredibly beautiful and offers an amazing opportunity for you to transform any wall into an open canvas! I hope that learning about these manufactures has inspired you to think about designing walls in a new and creative way! If you would like...

Cozying Up For the Winter Months!

I love anything that has to do with concepts and the idea of designing a winter retreat home is just so lovely to me! I have found some marvelous products that would go perfect in any winter vacation home, all of these pieces are fabulously clever and remind me of the great outdoors, I hope you enjoy! Here is a wallpaper finish from Scrap Wood Wall Paper Inc. It is the perfect juxtaposition; offering a rustic approach, giving off the feeling of being in a woody forest while you are still able to cozy up next to a warm fire.  It has a paper top layer and a non-woven backing, no wallpapering table is necessary and it is a wall feature that is pasted. These wood walls are to die for! Who would have thought you could turn a log of wood into speakers! This is such a great way to include modern looking electrical systems into a rustic outdoorsy space without compromising the design! This is called the iTree and is a top quality iPhone and Ipod docking station that is made out of a tree trunk. There are special techniques that are used to hollow out the space for the equipment, each of the iTree’s are unique. The customer is even able to choose their wood by taking a hike through the Forrest to pick out their own tree! Offered from Fiftytwothousand and designed by Mark Moskovitz here is another product of disguise; what may seem like a pile of lumber is really a four drawer dresser! This is a unique design as well as an illusion and would go perfect in any slope side log cabin. These stools from Pfeifer Studio are just so quaint, they are the perfect accent in any living room setting if you are looking for a place to sit or simply hold your mug. They are fun, vibrant and are even eco-friendly, what could be more perfect for a winter chalet? Made from solid pine logs and painted they are inspired by traditional southwestern architecture, the pigments and colors that are used are earth-bound rooted in nature.  They are made in New Mexico and are locally-harvested. Now for some textiles that have a rustic and western feel as well, these Cognac hide pillows are created from African Springbok hides which have been over dyed to a cognac color. They would add...

Designing a Bedroom Sanctuary That Fits You

A sanctuary represents the single place to go and find peace and prosperity of one’s self; a bedroom can be that. It has its own purpose, and the design style of a bedroom should represent you; hope you enjoy. This bedroom is the perfect inspiration if you are trying to create a dramatic, luxurious feel. The architectural details combined with the high contrasting color scheme and the scale, creates a look that is just to die for. I love the details and attention that has been put into the fabrication. The mural that has been placed on the back wall of the tree is just so mysterious especially in contrast to the architectural details in the fire place; this space is definitely fit for a Drama Queen! In contrast, this is a more serene and calming bedroom designed by Nick Olsen. I love the subtle color palate that he has chosen; washed out blues, greens and a hint of taupe’s.  However, he is still able to create a sense of energy and life through the touches of brighter and more saturated colors particularly the apple green lamps lighting the space. This bedroom designed by Stephen Sills Associates, has such an eclectic and cultured vibe to it. I love the combination of the different design styles, cultured elements, and accessories. There is also a feeling of tranquility and peace that comes with the minimal and simplistic lines and colors paired with the ornate and geometric patterns of the upholstery. Another interior designed by Stephen Sills Associates, is this elegant, grand bedroom. To me this has a great European feel to it, everything is very minimal and clean lined, yet there is still an ornate and graceful feel. The large scaled canopy bed helps to elongate and complement the grand ceiling, utilizing all of the space creating an incredibly open feel. Femininity and beauty is what exudes from this space designed by Amanda Nisbet Design. This bedroom is a heavenly abode; any girls dream. I love the soft, yet warm tones that have been paired with the fuchsia and honeysuckle pinks and peaches. She has done a marvelous job of combining styles as well, between the antique chair, crisp acrylic side table and transitional headboard. Here is a perfect example of how to design a space that will never go out of style! I hope that you have been inspired by...

Seven Reasons George Washington Would Be Happy Sleeping Here

As we all know, George Washington traveled quite a bit. When I selected my favorite types of beds from the ultra-glamorous to the sophisticated to the casual, I searched for reinvented traditional designs that create fresh and current looks. No matter what décor you may have, one could fit perfectly in your home.  I think they would have delighted George Washington and I think they will delight you too.  See for yourself. Here are seven examples: #1.  This bed sings to me of old Hollywood glamour. Can’t you just see Greta Garbo draped across this? Made of Australian walnut with textured tinted mirror, glass panels, a quilted satin head board and foot board; this bed is so magnificent. #2.  This bed fit for a queen, has a carved white lacquer frame, tufted head board and metal buttons. The regal feel of this bed reminds me of a crown. #3.  This bed has such a magical feel to it, looking as if it has come right out of a fairy tale book. I love the rod iron canopy and detail in the headboard. #4.  This bed is so elegant. Although this look has been done many times, it is such a classic and beautiful one I can see this being placed in any type of room décor. #5.  This Palm Four Post bed has such a tropical feel to it. This would be the perfect bed for any beach house setting. #6.  This bed was one that I had custom designed for the Westchester Designer Show House. The head board and foot board details were picked up from the pattern in the rug, tying the entire décor of the room together. #7.  The Montecito Bed has an Arabian influence in the design which exudes an exotic feel. I am in love with the gray wash of the wood, which is unexpected because it has taken such a traditional looking bed and applied a more current finish to it. Interior Designer, Alexa Hampton, says it, “the job of the designer is to be a filter for clients, distilling their best impulses to create beautiful, functional rooms.” All of these beds are beautiful, functional and would fulfill anyone’s best impulses. I am sure George W. would agree. To me, the combination of beauty and function is what Interior Design is all about.  Here are some I have distilled from the best impulses of...
