Bringing Life to a Room with Embellished Furniture!

Embellished pieces bring excitement and personality to a home. A simplistic living room can easily be perked up by adding an embellished piece of furniture. Here are some perfect examples of some embellished furniture that would bring life to any space! I love how glamorous natural elements can look when done in a lavish finish. This table from Chista, features a free form shape with a cast bronze finish. This is no doubt a statement piece, and would be perfect for anyone who is going for a glamorous look. These lamps from CHD Lamp Co. are absolutely gorgeous! I love how the amethyst embellishments stand out against the aged steel. These lamps show how something can be made extraordinary by just the smallest embellishment on the lamp’s chain. This lamp could be just what you need to complete a space, and would add that one last touch of color! Here is another example of how glamorous details on lighting pieces are extremely eye catching.  These contemporary lighting fixtures from Windfall are made from Swarovski Strass Jewellery Beads.  I love how they sparkle when the light hits them! The beads help to create a sparkle in the space that can reflect throughout the room. I adore this ottoman from Sici’s. I love how the mosaic feature adds an even more luxurious feel to the piece than just the standard velvet fabric. The beautiful movement created by the curve of this ottoman, finished off with the exquisite gold detail, would be a great touch for a bedroom or living area!   If you already have a piece that you want to add embellishments to, then Diamond Head Upholstery Tack is the way to go! These tacks range in all different colors and sizes and you can put them wherever you want. This is a great for someone who is not sure how much embellishment they want, and can add them in small increments. I hope that you have been inspired by these ideas on how to bring embellishment into your home! Utilizing Brush Strokes!

A huge and exciting trend that I have been seeing lately is brushstrokes. Whether it is in fabric, wallpaper, or accessories, simply adding paint strokes is the perfect solution to bringing life and texture into your space. I have selected a few spaces, as well as accessories where designers have used this technique to create exquisite interiors. I adore this entryway by Kelly Wearstler. The combination of the timeless and elegant staircase with the funky paint strokes is dynamite. The orange color of the strokes is also a great way to make a bold statement. Here is another eclectic mix of traditional pieces and bold pink paint strokes. This is Amanda Nisbet’s bedroom for the Kip’s Bay Decorator Show House. I love how she has chosen to use fine and delicate antique furnishings, and then off sets it with the vibrant and surprising wallpaper! This type of wallpaper is a great way to bring the look of texture into a space. I adore these lamps from Bunny Williams. This shows how brush strokes can also look fabulous in accessories and furniture. Again, showing how you can mix such opposite styles to create your own amazing look; contrasting the antique delicate gold base with the wild, yet tamed paint strokes is so creative! The fabric on this chair has created an updated look for this traditional side chair. I also love the contrast of the bright colors. This is the perfect way to create a statement piece that would be sure to turn heads! I hope that you have been inspired by these creatively designed spaces and accessories for the next time you are trying to update and originate the look of your space. Fabulous Lighting From the International Contemporary Furniture Fair

As a continuation from last week’s blog where I revealed to you some of my favorite textures from the International Contemporary Furniture Fair at the JAVITS Convention Center,  this week I am going to do the same, however changing the focusing to fabulous lighting! These marvelous glass crystals bring a warm elegance to any setting! Made from Quartz crystal, they offer the perfect element of interest. They can also be customized and can individually hang at any level to offer just the right look that you are trying to create for you space. As shown in some of the images above, I would love to see these staggered above a kitchen table. If you want a more modern approach to lighting, these light fixtures by Shakuff are fun and energetic with a side of elegance. They have just the perfect amount of subtle glow and they even offer a sweet sense of mystery. Now for an intergalactic look is this marvelous light from Moooi, is designed “Based on pure mathematics, the beauty of light has been re-defined; staring into the universe is now possible, also during cloudy nights. The intricate spheres of Raimond transport the electrical current”. The dynamic design approach that the artist took to create this light fixture it simply magnificent. This King Edison pendant lamp is exquisitely designed by Young and Battaglia. It is the perfect combination of rustic exposed elements, alongside a refined and sweet look. It is inspired from the iconic Edison Lamp and has been re-created with pure simplicity, also exuding the “romance and glamour of a king’s chandelier”. This would be perfect staggered in a grouping over a kitchen table as well, “small is beautiful meets a moment of genius”. Beautiful Accessories in Their Purest Form

I often find that people overlook the beauty of Mother Nature because it is given to us so freely. Today I would like to take a step back from the new, completely modern, and mass produced accessories, that are slowly taking over the industry and instead recognize the natural and one of kind pieces. I have come across a few companies that are simply charming; they all have their own creative techniques for re-inventing forms of natural elements and truly finding beauty in its purest form!     Here is a fabulous company called Interi which I just love! They offer beautiful accessories and one of a kind creations stemming from 16th to 18th century fragments. They take architectural remnants and fragmented objects, often times from churches that have fallen into disuse and then recreate them in their own beautiful way to make these marvelous works of art. They also take elements from Mother Nature and add their own patina, embellishing them in new and fascinating ways to create these wonderful pieces. I love the idea of taking something so simple that offers incredible history and nature, and re creating them into elements of design. Not to mention that there is absolutely no mass production in the process; everything is guaranteed to be one of a kind! This lighting fixture from Michele Varian, is called the glass cluster. It is made of hand blown glass bubbles, and can either be used as a table lamp or can be hung vertically.  I love the way in which the light seeps through all of the elements and textures of the layered glass, illuminating a space with a subtle and enchanting glow. I would love to see a few of these placed in any living area or table setting. By day it would add an interesting sculptural element, and by night create a charming glow. This lighting fixture is called the Iron Lotus Pendant. Not only can it be hung by a chain as shown here, but can also be flush mounted to the ceiling, which would be just fascinating. I love the artistic sense and creativity that has been applied to the design of this piece. The way that the designer has recreated a lotus plant with such elegance and grace in a rough and sleek material, is so intriguing. I hope that these elements and works of art have inspired...

Looking for Lighting? Here are Some Bright Ideas!

This week I have decided to take a look into fun exciting lighting ideas. I find that people often times stick to more traditional lighting options, but I would like to share with you some great innovative lighting systems and fixtures! This wall mounted light is so clean and functional; it would go perfect in any loft. It has such great movements and is ergonomically created to function with your body’s needs. This would be the perfect solution for a space where you do not have the room for a lamp or chandelier. The details are just so fun; from the sculpted back plate, to the funky orange cord, this piece is great! Here is the Levity; another functional lighting fixture. It combines flexibility and directed lighting with additional power options. It has the ability to be put away when not in use, which adds to its flexibility. The way that it is used is by simply pulling on the lid causing it to rise automatically; it has the ability to extend up to twenty one inches and rotate in any direction. With the combination of its sleek clean and modern look along with its multi functional purposes, it is the perfect task lighting fixture for any desk or work surface! Now for a much more grand approach, here is a chandelier from yellow goat designs. I love the intergalactic feel; it looks as if it is a space ship which has dropped out of the sky. I would love to use this in a more contemporary space with high lofted ceilings. This is a lighting fixture done by the artist Robert Kaimdl. When he designes each piece, he creates them custom and to be fully functional. He tries to achieve this illuminated light that comes from within the piece, mimicking the fire from which it was created. To me, he could not have done a better job; these fixture’s look as if they are a big ball of fire. Now, I hope that these lighting fixtures have sparked an idea in your head for the next time you are selecting your lighting! If you would like to be inspired further, you can check out my work here, and remember it’s all in the details! Relates Sites: Tse & Tse Associees Doug Mockett & Company, Inc.
