When an interior designer feels like a kid in a candy store

When does an interior designer feel like she is a kid in a candy store?

When she goes to the 10th Annual Architectural Home Design Show at Pier 94 in New York City.  It’s a four-day event in March that is as close to being in nirvana as you can come if you have an appreciation for home design.

If you didn’t get the chance to go or live too far away to make the trip, don’t worry.  I’ll help you experience the show from an interior designer’s point of view.

Let me start with the two sensational pieces from the Couture Collection up-top.   The one on the left is a sconce. The one on the right is table lamp.  Both are made from semi-precious stones that are one of a kind pieces of jewelry for the room.

Then, we have the Cecelia Webber Collection, represented by Brenda Houston. It has fantastic wall art. Right now butterflies are a huge trend in home décor and Cecelia’s photographs of butterflies are magnificent.

My next fantastic find was Clancy Designs.  Believe it or not these flowers, leaves, and grass are all hand blown glass. Notice that the grass has lighting coming up through it. These are all one of a kind pieces of artwork.

You wouldn’t want to miss the SKATEMODERNE cabinets.  These pieces are made with faux shagreen which would take a specialist to determine that it is not the real thing. The shagreen surface is waterproof so it can be used in areas with rambunctious children and the cabinet pulls are semi-precious stones.

If you’re a fan of French design, you wouldn’t want to miss Accents of France.  Wood treillage urns are inspired by French garden architecture. These can be made to order to fit specific dimension requirements and can be painted any standard paint color.

If you’re like me, every item in a room shouldn’t just have a function, it should be art.  That’s why I loved Ton Art.  They made me rethink speakers.

Even though the event was just a week ago, I can’t wait for next year’s show.  I’m hoping you’ll join me or let me take you on another tour like we just did.  For a tour of some of the items featured in homes I’ve designed, click here.

Did you enjoy the show?  Which was your favorite?
