Bringing the Outdoors Indoors!

I love the idea of incorporating outdoor elements into home design. By bringing an organic energy into wallpaper, furniture, and other home decor adds a level of individuality that can make your home unique.  These nature inspired pieces are by no means one dimensional; while they classically show up and look great in Mediterranean and beach inspired homes, they can also look incredibly luxurious and sophisticated when used correctly. Check out these pictures which demonstrate how Mother Nature’s natural beauty can be emphasized and utilized to create beautiful spaces. I adore the detail in this new wallpaper by Élitis.  They took something so simple such as a feather and transformed it into a very sophisticated wallpaper. This wallpaper truly captures the intricate beauty already supplied by Mother Nature and elevates it to make something unique. I love how the feather paper is used with the modern furniture and jewel tone pillows to keep the room elegant and innovative. This image is of a couple’s home in California featured by Elle Decor. I believe the ceiling, which is often left plain, is one of the best places to show off individual style in an unusual and creative way. This unfinished wood has an organic look which brings a casual sophistication to this dining area. This glass sculpture by Thomas Long is spectacular! These pieces are reminiscent of natural forms, and looks similar to flowers in a field. Abstract artwork like this brings in a variety of color and life to a room, as well as natural shapes and textures. A piece like this would look fabulous in a beach house. This cork wallpaper with gorgeous gold detail shows how these natural elements can look extremely luxurious. This wallpaper would look amazing in a contemporary or traditional space, and would bring in a great texture to any room. Cork is also very green, and would be great for people who are looking to be environmentally friendly. I hope that these natural elements have inspired you to bring the outdoors in!  If you would like some further inspiration on ways to think outside of the box you can view my work here. Turning Plain Walls into Beautiful Works of Art!

Leather tiling for floors or walls is a gorgeous way to add glamour to any space. They are not only stylish and creative but they will age beautifully! Leather tiles are best used to draw attention to an area. By placing them behind the T.V., the T.V. becomes the focal point of this room. Also, they are great for bring unexpected texture. I love the way these tiles are incorporated with the textures from the ceiling, chandelier, couches, and all the other elements. I love the idea of using leather tiles behind a bed to add emphasis to the space. They are great for making a statement of luxury. These rooms look gorgeous; I love the mirrors for added texture! I also love these Textured Wall Panels. Using these make it easy to create a funky space while maintaining a classic and luxurious feel. How gorgeous would these be in your living room or bedroom? I also love the idea of using  these in a closet!   This is a fabulous company which I have come across, that features textured 3D PU leather tiles. The PU Leather is faux leather that also has a layer of water proof polyurethane.  This fabulous product brings forth a new dimension and concept for interior wall decorating. It enables a designer the ability to enhance flat walls with 3D surfaces that are not only visually rich, but also pleasing and stimulating to the eye.  I love the idea of using this material to transform a children’s play room or even using it in a home theater! Another marvelous company that really struck me was Bueno Glass. This is a form of art that utilizes blown glass to be placed on walls. They offer two different styles one for more rustic interiors which is the Stone Series and another which is more sleek and contemporary, the Silver Series. Despite their differences in appearance, they both are created using the methods of blown hot glass. All of the inspiration for these pieces is taken from nature in its purest for as you can see just simply from looking at the pieces, they are incredibly beautiful and offers an amazing opportunity for you to transform any wall into an open canvas! I hope that learning about these manufactures has inspired you to think about designing walls in a new and creative way! If you would like...

An Affordable Interior Design Trend is Looking Up

Want to make a quick, dramatic change in a room over a weekend?  Why not try wallpaper or painting on your ceiling in a bold color? It’s an easy, cost-conscious way to transform a space, whatever style your home may be. To prove it to you, here are some fun and affordable ways it’s been done. This Mauve Pink color placed on the ceiling has been inspired by a piece of artwork that hangs in the kitchen.  With this paint added on the ceiling it has created such a lively space which after all is what a kitchen should feel like. On the contrary, this image shows how you can take elements and colors from the actual design of a space and place it on the ceiling. In this space you can see how the designer was consistent with the design and the ceiling, it all reads as a cohesive color pallet. The print on the ceiling really draws your attention up and has a very interesting look. I love the colors that are used in this bedroom. This shows how you can use a bold and solid color in the design of the room and break it up, by placing a complex pattern on the ceiling. This is so interesting to me because typically patterns are what are seen on fabrics, but here all of the print has been placed on the ceiling of the room what a fun look! In this eccentric living room, you can see how color has been used on all five walls, throughout the entire space. The flooring and intense crown molding are both black and tie together the look of the room. The real punch can be seen in the aqua glossy blue on the walls, with the yellow gold that is on the ceiling, which corresponds with the gold trim on the blue wall panels. This is a great example of how to use intense color consistently to create a fabulous bold room. I love how contrasting this room is, if you were to take away the orange in the ceiling the space would be entirely neutral with blacks and browns. This shows how you can completely liven up a space by adding just one fun color to the ceiling. Does this cause you to look at the ceilings in your home a little differently? I’ve been a big fan of...

Need to add classic design to a room? Think of adding a vaulted ceiling.

The “moment of truth” for interior designers occurs when we first walk into a room.  Although we often see all sorts of possibilities, what do we do if we feel boxed in? Here’s what I do.  I look up to find the answer; that is, to the ceiling. As a rule, ceiling are monotonous and flat but they don’t have to be.  They can be changed to make people look up with awe and delight.  In fact, a ceiling is probably the easiest place to add distinct elements of architecture to a room and introduce classic design.   I’m a big believer in vaulted ceilings to add beautiful detail, imaginative design, concave shapes and wood or faux painted finishes. The images in this post are some of the vaulted ceilings I’ve done.  Look how they give a more solid, classic, nuanced look, definitely not monotoned. I’ve seen people amazed by the effects achieved with a custom designed ceiling.  The use of light and accents create the impression that they’re in a room of great significance.  A precious find.  In fact, they are, because it has a wonderful vaulted ceiling made to bring out the character of the space. I like to think of a ceiling as a 5th wall.   Why would you leave the ceiling, or the 5th wall bare?  Just because the 5th wall is located up from the others doesn’t make it any less important.  I think it’s the wall that differentiates the room Interested to try in your home? Check here for a little...
